Started out leaving Roswell overcast and a cool 85 degrees! Windows open for Isabella who did NOT want to get in the rig after her morning walk - this is becoming a very bad habit. Still looking for new owners for her - any volunteers?
70 miles up US 285 in the middle of no where, SueCanDo overheats. I take off the gas, then the check engine light comes on. I pull over and call my new service: Good Sam Roadside Assistance. Their Gps cannot locate me - well, I did say the middle of no where, about 30 miles south of the little town of Vaughn and 40 miles south of I40 which was still 60 east of Albuquerque. So many more hills to cross. After 20 minutes, started the rig and babied her through Vaughn and up to I40 where I found a rest stop. Let her cool off, then called Good Sam to find a Cummins Service Center. Just so happens to be one in Albuquerque at 1921 Broadway NE... but the GPS took me to 1921 Broadway SE where there was nothing. Had to find a place to u-turn (can't back up with a tow vehicle). Found the place - they were busy with rigs much newer than SueCanDo!
Quick diagnosis? Small oil leak spraying onto fan that sits in front of radiator - none of which is where it is on an automobile. Also low on anti-freeze but not as easy as opening the spout and pouring it in... of course not! Requires an entire process of closing valves, adding coolant, letting idle... blah blah blah. So I can't do.
Had to forfeit my reservation at the Enchanted Trails RV resort 10 minutes away and leave SueCanDo inside the barbed wired fenced yard where they will work on a full diagnosis tomorrow (not a fix yet, just full diagnosis!). Didn't want to stay in that neighborhood, so Isabella (who still needs a better home, did I mention?) are at the Motel 6 on Coors Blvd in Albuquerque :-) Walked over to the gas station for 8 hr old chicken strips - got Isabella some chicken livers.
Took the tow bar off the truck so it wouldn't go missing - angels and prayers need to please protect the inside of the truck this evening.
5:30 and I am going to bed so today will be over. This puts me a day behind so may have to postpone by a day my Camp Verde (south of Sedona), but WILL be there as my friend Mary from Scottsdale is meeting me there Saturday for a slumber party (so excited to see her).
Did I mention my birthday is Monday?
SSoooo I will be having a cocktail or two Saturday night - I deserve it, I think!
Hugs and Prayers to you all - especially those who have a nice quiet boring life this week. I am not envious as my adventure is building stamina, resilience and fortitude. I feel blessed to take the adventure, regardless of the hurdles!!
Now if only I could remember how to post a new blog entry....
